"Fast Food and we're all Doomed"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_fast_food http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn9318 http://www.healthy-eating-politics.com/usda-food-pyramid.html http://science.howstuffworks.com/innovation/edible-innovations/fast-food3.htm Fast food has been around for along time, as early as ancient Egypt The idea of fast food is as simple as "food all ready prepared, and ready to eat". The thesis of this essay comes from the first link in this post. Fast food is 'fast food is bad for us all".... We all eat it, and all love it ! Fast food is a staple of the American way. Since 1948 when McDonald's open there door's as the first fast food franchise, we all have been there. What could be more pop culture than that.Burger King and Taco Bell in the the 50's and Wendy's in1969 and an industry that boost's 163.5 BILLION dollar's a year!!!!! Wow ,that a lot of burgers, taco's,chicken and fries. As I said,it started a long time ago, before we even knew what fast food was.Maybe some dried camel hump on the the side of the road,Dried meat for the a' Kights" ride to the unholy land. Or an dried apple to keep the children of the Euphrates from going hungry. In Europe it could have been"fish and chips"for the common working people who had no place to prepare food before work. Or corn dodgers that cowboys carried to fill there bellies when there was nothing else to eat. In the early 1920's in the southern United States, po boy's were born, "a slang for poor boy's" a sandwich made for the blue collar workers of the region, that were hardworking and had no way of preparing food and storing it for the the next's day's work. Fast food has become an every day part of all our lives,it's fast, easy and convenient. But it's also a very unhealthy part of our lives. It's mass produced and widely distributed because it's in high demand, which causes the quality to decline. It's been found that some of the fast food industry chains have some of the worst sanitary conditions in the food industry.Studies show that there are more infections from food contamination, than any other industry, world wide. http://youtu.be/S9rUce9mfNY http://youtu.be/taap8ivSgVA These foods are totally comprised of salt, saturated fat and ingredient's that the normal person couldn't even pronounce Unfortunately they are produced to satisfy our want's and desire's,wow we are really bad. "How we Decide" Why do we always want what's bad for us."Cause it's so 'Good" Dam I want a burger and fries, right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "O" and a chocolate Shake with whip cream..... I want it 'NOW" And that's how we decide, we have a desire, we act upon it,so we want it, and I do want a freaking hamburger, right 'NOW" This is what fast food and the industry is all about, right now, NO yesterday!!!!!!!!!! Why sit at a dinner for 30 minutes and wait for a good meal, when I can have a shitty one right now !!!!!!!!! I'm the old school type of guy,I'd rather bring you to a place where we could sit down and talk for a few minutes before we eat, instead of eating before we even have a chance to know each other, then again, that's just me. I like and eat fast food all the time, but it's just because it's convenient I much prefer to make a meal myself, as I'm a pretty dam good cook if I say so myself....To me it's just so much more enjoyable to sit down with family or friend's and make something that you've created on your own and that other people enjoy... But that's not the way the masses see it, need it, see it,got to have it, Right Freaking Now !!!!!!!!!! Doesn't matter if it's not good for us, just got to have it,Right Now.... I totally agree with these points of view, we've been consuming these scrumptious tidbits of greasy, salty and sugary foods for a couple of hundred years, why shouldn't we be getting fat. Our society is based apoun the easy way is the best way, how sad.....

"HOW WE DECIDE" Second reading assignment!

If human beings are the most intelligent of all creatures on this planet, then why didn't evolution or some divine entity design us to be more logical and rational? So that we and our world wouldn't be in such turmoil! Why do our emotions have to rule us and our world!!!

Audi/video Pop Culture

The three different subjects of pop culture I picked are transportation, fast food and technology My audio/video feed was of Harley Davidson motorcycles on the square in downtown Prescott,AZ. I feel they represent pop culture in a number of ways. They are mass produced and widely distributed,.and they are very popular with modern culture To me they represent freedom, excitement and just plain fun.
Fast food is an American staple, this country is all about bigger, better and faster.Fast food is mass produced and widely distributed, and a everyday part of our culture. Its one of the largest industries in the world and is enjoyed by billions on a daily basis. We all enjoy a big mac, pizza, taco or fried chicken from time to time It's become an everyday part of our lives.
Technology is an amazing thing, these assignments would not be possible without it.Every type of technology is mass produced and widely distributed. It has become such an important part of our lives Everything from cell phones, computers, cars, planes, trains almost everything that is mechanical is controlled by some type of new technology.Technology has become an everyday part of my life and most everyone Else's,it would be an unbelievable thing to what would happen without it
I wouldn't be able to finish my homework, that's for sure.Pop culture has and will shape our lives and world forever,in my opinion,it is what and who we are.

Gamifying Education

I found the video interesting and very educational, it has given me a lot of insight about this mystifying subject of gamifying education. When I registered for this class I thought it would be mostly reading, comprehension and class discussion, but on the first day of class I was rudely awakened .I was terrified at the thought of having to complete all the class assignments via computer and the internet,as I have not had a lot of computer experience due to growing up in not so much of a technological age.My first computer had 4MB Memory on the"hard drive" !!
I think that gamifying education is a great idea, especially for the new and upcoming generations.I think it is a fresh approach to an old an outdated system of education. The system of working toward shorter goals and working in a positive direction is much more appealing than the old method. In this technological age I think people can relate to this new system much easier. These days almost everyone is on the computer an internet, working, studying, researching and just for fun.Even our phones have these capabilities, from my generations point of view this is the "George Jetson" age.So why wouldn't people be more comfortable with this type of educational system,I think they will. But I also believe they should have the choice, some people are just not comfortable with or have the aptitude for it.
We also need to be cautious about how vulnerable we let our selves become to the rest of the world,an to our reliance upon technology and how sometimes it can have an adverse affect on our lives and society.I hate to think about it,but we've all seen those post apocalyptic movies and it would be a shame for us all to be walking around dumfounded because we've forgotten how  to use our minds without the help of our computers.Computers and technology are amazing and wonderful things, but they are things that the human mind have created to assist us in achieving our goals.
As for this Pop Culture class,I think it would have been helpful to know how much computer and internet interaction is required to successfully complete this course.Had I known,I would have taken another computer coarse to help prepare me.But all in all,I'm happy I took this class because it will help prepare me for what lies ahead in my education and my future.I have already learned and accomplished so much, I'm proud of myself and grateful to be apart of this class.

"HOW WE DECIDE"

The most interesting thing I found in the first half of the book was the subject of our subconscious minds and how it affects our decision making..

I found the class very interesting! Little concerned about the computer program we'll be using.
