"Unpopular Culture"

“Pornography” and its negative effects on our culture.

Pornography and its existence, has gone back almost as far as humans themselves. Archeologists have dug up artifacts from before ancient Chinese and Egyptian cultures were first thought to have begun. The consisted of different types of sculptures depicting sex between men and woman. And even more disturbing, sex acts with the same sex and even with animals.    Later in history, the more common  pornographic pieces were pictures and paintings, but in 1839 photography was invented and then there were no holds bared. It made pornography accessable to the masses and much easier to reproduce and profit from.

Pornography has long been condemned and legally proscribed in the belief that it depraves and corrupts both minors and adults and that it leads to the commission of sex crimes. Occasionally, important artistic or even religious works have been banned because they are considered pornographic under such assumptions. From the beginning of men and woman, Just about all religious groups have condemned the act of pornography.
They say that “God says it’s the way to the devil and fortification without marriage is sinful”. Don’t really know if I believe in that one, but sometimes enough should be enough. Why is it that everyone wants what they don’t have, and doesn’t appreciate what they do have? It’s sad and we all should be happy for what and who  we have.
Pornography has had a devastating effect on a lot of couples and marriages, some studies have shown that the percentages of relationships failing due to pornography are on the rise.  Married men involved in pornography report feeling less satisfied with their marital relations and less emotionally attached to their wives, the study says. It also notes that men who regularly use pornography or women who engage in “cyber sex” show increased infidelity. It’s said that the use of pornography more than triples the divorce rate, and that 68% of divorces involved one of the partners meeting someone new over the internet.
Internet pornography has become a wide spread epidemic and also has damaged many relationships. 68% of divorces have been blamed on one part having a “obsession with internet porn”.
The internet makes the delivery of porn to easy for people who have these types of addictions. Pornography is like a drug and can become very addictive. Porn addicts have a harder time recovering than cocaine addicts, because it’s easier to get drugs out of your system than images out of your mind.
Pornography really does, unlike other addictions, biologically cause direct release of the most perfect addictive substance, it causes masturbation, which causes release of the naturally occurring opioids. It does what heroin can't do, in effect. It’s also been said that there’s a growing number of men that are developing sexual problem’s induced by porn. It seems that with each new dopamine spike, the brain is losing its ability to respond to dopamine signals.
Therefor the person needs increasingly higher doses of exposure to feel the same effect, thus the addiction. Pornography has a destructive effect on our society, and I don’t see how anyone can argue with that. Would anyone argue that addictive drugs like meth amphetamines are good for our society, I think not.  I’ve found countless articles and studies done by reputable people and none of them are pro- pornography.
I’ve only found one article from a professional stating that pornography can help some relationships and some people which have certain sexual problems. The only other people who seem to be for porn are pro-choice advocates and the dealers of porn that like all the money they make.

So let’s clean it up people, remember “cleanliness is next to Godliness”

"Letter to the Editor"

“Letter to the editor”

I believe it’s obvious the editor of this letter is bias and most certainly owns multiply firearms. Although it may be true that this law ”one gun a month” may not be able to be directly related to crime statistics, that support the idea of less guns mean less crime, but it seems to me that it is common sense. A very simple question that I would ask you, is, why would anyone need to  have the desire to buy more than one gun a month?
That would be twelve guns in one year. To me that is just an obsession or even an addiction, and everyone knows that anything in excess is not a good thing. Fewer guns out in the public and the laws that govern them can only be a good thing.
Look at total violent crimes per 100,000 inhabitants. Their rate is now about twice as high in Canada as in the U.S. The violent crime rate has dropped markedly in the U.S. since the early 1990s, but has remained basically stable here. More data is available in Professor Gary Mauser’s Fraser Forum article.            The Brady Center argues that when the civilian population has more access to guns, more teens and children die from gun wounds.   For example, during a year when over 5,000 teens and children died from gun wounds in the USA, in Great Britain, where gun ownership is very restricted, 19 teens and children died from gun wounds.
This is a subject of debate that will probably go on until the end of time. I’m a gun owner, Mossberg 500 and I love skeet shooting. But if there wasn’t any gun control, what would stop me or anyone from going out and buying a fully automatic weapon. We all need to show control in all aspects of our lives, because without it there is only anarchy.

"Everybody Googles"

The first document is a resignation letter from Eleanor Roosevelt to the Daughters of the American Revolution. She resigned in protest to the DAR banning Marian Anderson from performing at Constitution Hall. The search strings I used for this document were the date, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
First I started my search with Google, which brought me to a number of different links. I first tried the federal library link, which seems to be a creditable site. Then I tried the national archives.gov link, which seems to be even more reliable source of information. I also tried a link that brought me to a site for past published newspapers, but it required a subscription.
I feel that the archives .gov web site is more creditable site for this type of information. This site is specifically setup for the recording of historical events.

The second document is a map of the freedom riders of 1961. This activist group set out to desegregate bus terminals.
The search strings I used to research this were; ap news features, April 22 through Dec 1,ap news features map, freedom riders, and freedom riders map. First I tried Google and I could barely find anything until coming across virginiamemory.com. Could only find on link, until searching Bing. This lead me to numerous links which eventually brought me to the library of congress.
I believe the that the library of congress site is the most reliable.

The third document is a complaint against a woman named Rosa Parks. She was a black woman that refused to move to the back of the bus in 1955 when segregation laws were in effect. I search through Google and the strings I used were, Dec 1 1955 city of Montgomery, I didn’t find much until I a cite that included the empire theater. Which then lead me to another that listed the Rosa Parks library and museum in Montgomery.
This site included relative dates and locations which gave me more string information, which in turn lead me to Montgomery. troy and then onto montgomeryboycott.com. All these sites seem to reputable.

The fourth document was a roll call for a bill that was being voted on. It would be the first page of a 56 page long bill that would incorporate civil rights legislation. The first strings led me to government sites that just confused the hell out of me. Then I tried it a different way, I tried the library of congress 88th session and the date feb 10 1964.
Finally I got some understandable results, first it brought me to Black Americans in Congress “Keeping the Faith” and then to Congress link.org. Congresslink.org definitely seems to be the more reputable site.

I have found this quest to be a challenge and frustrating!!

"Love Marks"

                                        " Love Marks"

Love marks are products sold by different manufacturers that our society have just as much as an emotional connection with as a practical one. After much thought, I would have to say that my love mark that has the most emotional meaning to me would be Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

My devotion to Harleys started as a teenager I would say. I started riding when I was about 10 years old, mostly Japanese dirt bikes. But there was always something about Harleys that made me feel I was missing out on something special.
I was to young to own one, and so were my friends. So I feel that it didn't have anything to do with the admiration of what the other guys had. There was something about them that made me want one. The thought of riding down the road with the wind in your hair and your girl on the back, what could be better than that.
The advertisements of the time were about just that, freedom, excitement and fun. Which all young men want, but there was the whole other side of the story of Harley Davidson's. The bad ass biker, the beer drinker and hell raiser! That appealed to me also, hanging out with your tough biker buddies ruling the roads.

The values expressed the manufacturer would be that Harley Davidson's are American made motorcycles and reliable, but I don't think many people cared about that, they were just cool as hell.

Harley's help me to express my wilder side, the side that just doesn't give a "    ". When I'm riding I just feel free! It fulfills my inner need to not care or worry about the everyday problems of life, a chance to escape.

Get one, ride one or ask for a ride on one and you may experience or other side as well.
